Councils
Concrete inside your boundary usually needs no permit. The crossover, where your driveway meets the road, is council territory, and each one runs its own process. What your job needs is confirmed in writing with the quote.
Bayside requires a vehicle crossing permit and enforces its standard crossover design, with attention to heritage precincts and street tree protection.
Covers Brighton and Hampton in our service area. The sandy ground near the bay drains well but can sit soft, so the base is compacted thoroughly before any pour. Heritage overlays in parts of Brighton can limit crossover changes, and street trees are protected, both checked before the quote is finalised.
Boroondara needs a vehicle crossing permit before any crossover work, with the new crossover built to council's standard drawing and inspected before and after the pour. Heritage overlay streets can add conditions on width and material.
Covers Balwyn North and Camberwell in our service area. Boroondara is strict on crossover width and on protecting street trees, and it inspects both the formwork before the pour and the finished crossover after it. Many Camberwell streets sit in a heritage overlay, so a second or wider crossover can need planning sign off on top of the standard permit.
Kingston requires a vehicle crossing permit for new or altered crossovers, built to the council standard drawing and inspected before pouring.
Covers Mentone in our service area. The ground is mostly flat with a sandy base and access is straightforward, and Kingston turns permits around quickly, so jobs here tend to move from quote to pour with little waiting.
Manningham requires a vehicle crossing permit for new or altered crossovers, with construction to council specification and a nature strip reinstatement bond in some cases.
Covers Doncaster and Templestowe in our service area. Blocks here are often sloped with a deep nature strip, so the crossover gradient matters: council checks that a standard car will not scrape at the change of grade, and the driveway levels are designed around that from the start.
Monash requires a vehicle crossing permit before the crossover is touched, with the crossover built to the council's standard and an inspection prior to pouring.
Covers Glen Waverley and Mount Waverley in our service area. Permits are typically turned around within a couple of weeks, and council inspects the boxing before the pour, so the permit is lodged as soon as the quote is accepted rather than the week the truck is booked.
Whitehorse issues a vehicle crossing permit through its asset protection process. Council specifies the crossover profile and requires the old crossover to be removed and the kerb reinstated if it is no longer used.
